Mastering for beginners? What to do?

What’s the best and the most accessible tool for mastering your track as a beginner? or okay din ba yung mga cloud based na platform? Or okay din ba yung i-noofer ng distrokid?

Hi DCFER and welcome to the community!

Para sa akin the best way to master your track is to work with a mastering engineer. Mas mahirap (at mas mahal!) ito gawin dati bago nung pandemic. Ngayon, mas maraming mastering engineers ang nagtatrabaho online and pwede mo sila kausapin para i-pitch yung project mo.

This is still the best way to get your track mastered because having another pair of ears listen to your mix can improve it by addressing overall issues in the tonal balance (halimbawa, masyadong malakas yung bass) and of course bringing up the overall loudness of your mix

If you’re looking for mastering engineers to work with online, try going to Soundbetter.com maraming mastering engineers doon at different budgets. I work with one that charges under $100 per song for example.

A Filipino mastering engineer I can refer you to is Jan Fuertez. He’s one of the owners of Nine Degrees North and Cozy Cove, so he knows what to do to make great songs sound even better

Now regarding your question about online mastering services: I haven’t tried the one by Distrokid, but I did a review of the LANDR mastering platform almost a decade ago nung nasa Digital DJ Tips pa ako.

It was decent back then, and I can imagine it’s gotten a lot better now. I think it’s fine if you want a quick (but potentially not as amazing as a human mastering engineer) master for your DJ gigs.

Sana nakatulong tong mga sagot ko

Makes a lot of sense! Oo actually na notice ko din tlaga yung difference sa mga output malayo tlaga and yes medyo na realize ko din na walang simple way or shortcut or convenient dun sa artform mismo and i really do respect the process! Curious lang din tlaga hehe

I suggest trying out the online mastering services and compare the output to working with a human mastering engineer from Soundbetter.com  you’ll find a process that fits your workflow and budget, and this may even change later on when you become more familiar with the sound that you want

Personally, a big advantage to working with a mastering engineer is they can give you feedback on how to improve your mix so they can give you the best sounding mastering possible for your work. At the same time, you can also give them feedback on their master in case there are specific tonal / loudness changes you want made

Plus, mas masaya working with another person!
